🏋️ Blog Post #6 – From the Football Field to the Gym: A New Routine
Going from a full football season to only training in the gym has been a strange change for me. During the season, everything had a rhythm—practices, team meetings, game days, and that crazy mix of pressure and excitement before kickoff. Now, the days feel quieter. There’s no whistle, no teammates yelling for the ball, no long bus rides. It’s just me, my headphones, and the weights.
The biggest difference is the energy. Football training is fast, explosive, and full of teamwork. You push yourself because the whole team is depending on you. In the gym, the motivation has to come from inside. There’s no coach watching, no teammate pushing you in a sprint. I’ve had to learn how to stay disciplined on my own, which has honestly been harder than I thought. Some days the gym feels great, and other days I miss the feeling of stepping onto the field with the boys.
But the gym has also been good for me. I can focus more on strength, mobility, and building up my body without the stress of games every week. It’s a different kind of progress—slower, more controlled, but still important. And even though I miss the chaos of football season, I know this part of the year is helping me prepare for what’s next.
If you want to follow our team, you can check out the Butte College Athletics page, look at schedules on CCCAA Football, or even learn more about strength training basics.
I guess that’s the biggest lesson: the season might be over, but the work never really stops. It just changes.
