Blog 3 Lake Tahoe away game
🏔️ Blog Post #3 – Matchday vs. Lake Tahoe: Football in the Mountains
There’s something different about playing up in Lake Tahoe. The air feels thinner, the mountains surround the field, and everything just feels sharper — colder, but beautiful. We left Chico before sunrise, sleepy but focused, heading into what we all knew would be a tough game. Lake Tahoe Community College has a strong squad this year, and their home advantage is real.
The first half was chaos. The wind up there makes the ball move in ways you can’t predict. We were chasing shadows at first, trying to adjust, but slowly we started to find rhythm. Around the 30th minute, I made a run down the right, got a pass from Marco, and crossed it in — our striker met it perfectly. 1–0 Butte. For a second, the whole team just exploded. There’s no better feeling.
Lake Tahoe came back strong in the second half. They equalized after a corner, and suddenly it was all pressure. The crowd was loud, even small as it was, and you could feel the tension rising. But that’s football — the best moments come from chaos. In the last five minutes, we got a free kick just outside the box. I took it. It hit the bar, bounced down… and our winger tapped it in. 2–1. Final whistle. Three points.
After the game, we stood together watching the sun set over the mountains. It was freezing, but no one cared. Wins like that feel different — earned, not given.
