🦵 Blog Post #8 – Leg & Core Day: The Work You Feel Tomorrow

🦵 Blog Post #8 – Leg & Core Day: The Work You Feel Tomorrow Leg day has always been one of those workouts you don’t fully appreciate until the next morning — when walking upstairs suddenly feels like a workout of its own. Since the football season ended, I’ve made leg and core training a bigger priority. Legs are the base of everything in sports: speed, balance, power, and explosiveness. And a strong core ties it all together, helping with stability and injury prevention. If you want to see proper squat form, this barbell squat tutorial is one I’ve used a lot. What I enjoy most about leg and core day is how focused it feels. During the season, training is fast and intense, and sometimes you barely notice individual muscles working. In the gym, it’s the opposite. You feel every rep, every burn, every drop of sweat. It forces you to slow down and pay attention to what your body is doing. That’s something I’ve grown to appreciate in the off-season — having the time to work o...

💪 Blog Post #7 – My Back & Shoulders Routine: Staying Strong in the Off-Season

💪 Blog Post #7 – My Back & Shoulders Routine: Staying Strong in the Off-Season Since the football season ended, the gym has become the place where I keep myself grounded. Without practices, team drills, or weekly matches, my days feel different, but not in a bad way. The off-season gives me more time to focus on my body in a deeper way — fixing small weaknesses, building strength, and staying ready for when everything kicks off again. I’ve realized that staying consistent now is what sets the tone for the next season. If you’re curious how our team trains during the year, you can always check the Butte College Athletics page . One routine that has helped me the most is my back and shoulders workout. These muscles matter not just for football, but for overall strength and posture. I’ve tried different exercises and slowly figured out what feels right for my body. If you want to learn more about why strength training is important, this guide explains it well . After some tri...

🏋️ Blog Post #6 – From the Football Field to the Gym: A New Routine

🏋️ Blog Post #6 – From the Football Field to the Gym: A New Routine Going from a full football season to only training in the gym has been a strange change for me. During the season, everything had a rhythm—practices, team meetings, game days, and that crazy mix of pressure and excitement before kickoff. Now, the days feel quieter. There’s no whistle, no teammates yelling for the ball, no long bus rides. It’s just me, my headphones, and the weights. The biggest difference is the energy. Football training is fast, explosive, and full of teamwork. You push yourself because the whole team is depending on you. In the gym, the motivation has to come from inside. There’s no coach watching, no teammate pushing you in a sprint. I’ve had to learn how to stay disciplined on my own, which has honestly been harder than I thought. Some days the gym feels great, and other days I miss the feeling of stepping onto the field with the boys. But the gym has also been good for me. I can focus mo...

Blog 5# A home game away from home

Blog #5 – A Home Game Away From Home This week’s home game didn’t feel like a real home game at all. Even though the weather was finally dry, the heavy rain from the past few days completely destroyed our own field. The grass was soft, muddy, and unsafe to play on, so the game had to be moved to the Chico State grass field. Their field is in much better condition than ours, which makes sense considering how well they maintain it ( Chico State Athletics ). Still, it felt strange to play a “home” game somewhere else. Warming up on a proper grass field made a huge difference. The ball moved cleaner, our touches felt sharper, and it actually felt like real football again. But even with the better field, the feeling was different — no familiar lines, no usual setup, no real home atmosphere. We tried to settle in quickly and keep the focus on the game. Both teams started strong, and the match looked even from the beginning. The first half was competitive, with each side creating cha...

Blog 4 Home game against Feather River

Blog #4 – From Hope to Heartbreak: A Tough Home Loss This week’s home game against Feather River  started perfectly but ended in pure frustration. We went into the match confident, especially after a strong week of training with Butte . The weather was perfect, and we were ready to fight for three points. Early in the first half, we played some of our best football of the season — quick passes, smart runs, and high energy. Around the 25th minute, we scored to go up 1-0, and the feeling was unreal. Everyone believed this was going to be our game. But football can change fast. In the second half, Feather River came out pressing higher and forcing us into mistakes. Around the 60th minute, they scored the equalizer after a messy rebound in the box. We stayed focused and kept pushing forward, but you could feel the momentum shift. Then, with about ten minutes left, they caught us on a counterattack and made it 1-2. That goal hit hard — we’d worked so hard all game, and sud...

Blog 3 Lake Tahoe away game

🏔️ Blog Post #3 – Matchday vs. Lake Tahoe: Football in the Mountains There’s something different about playing up in Lake Tahoe. The air feels thinner, the mountains surround the field, and everything just feels sharper — colder, but beautiful. We left Chico before sunrise, sleepy but focused, heading into what we all knew would be a tough game. Lake Tahoe Community College has a strong squad this year, and their home advantage is real. The first half was chaos. The wind up there makes the ball move in ways you can’t predict. We were chasing shadows at first, trying to adjust, but slowly we started to find rhythm. Around the 30th minute, I made a run down the right, got a pass from Marco, and crossed it in — our striker met it perfectly. 1–0 Butte. For a second, the whole team just exploded. There’s no better feeling. Lake Tahoe came back strong in the second half. They equalized after a corner, and suddenly it was all pressure. The crowd was loud, even small as it was, and ...

🥅 Blog Post #2 – Matchday vs. Feather River: Fighting Back Some matches you forget quickly — others stick with you. Our game against Feather River was one I won’t forget. We went into it after a tough loss to Marin , and everyone was hungry to prove something. The bus ride up was quiet — just headphones, water bottles, and focus. You could feel that we wanted this one. Feather River came out strong and scored early. We looked a bit lost for the first 20 minutes, and honestly, I was frustrated. The sun was brutal, the turf was dry, and the ball bounced like crazy. But at halftime, our coach fired us up — he told us to stop playing safe and just trust the game. In the second half, something clicked. I got a pass just outside the box, cut inside, and took a shot — it hit the post, but our striker cleaned it up. 1–1. The momentum changed instantly. We didn’t win in the end (it finished 2–2), but it felt like a win because we showed real fight. After the match, we stopped at a ...
